The Supporters' Trust welcomes any initiative which benefits our loyal supporter base - but is bemused by the club’s decision to offer subsidised travel to the Bury away game through only one of the Northampton Town travel clubs.
The Trust feel this offer is partial and should instead reach out to all fans, irrespective of how they travel to away games and who they travel with. We feel this offer may marginalise many other loyal supporters who prefer to go to away games by car or rail or who prefer to use the other travel clubs, particularly at a time when the team can do with all the support it can get. If the club wishes to reward loyal fans, a better course of action may have been to offer subsidised ticket prices for anyone travelling to a selected away game, be it Bury or any of our remaining away trips. While the scheme, in spirit, is a good one and we are glad the club is open to such ideas, we are very disappointed that the club has not consulted with us on how this could be executed to ensure it fairly rewards ALL of our away supporters. We intend to raise this in at an upcoming meeting we have with the club before the end of the month.
TRUST REMEMBERS WALTER TULL
NTFC Supporters' Trust will be playing a full part in the centenary commemoration of Walter Tull, the former Northampton Town footballer who was the first black officer to lead white British soldiers in battle in World War One.
The Trust will be represented at Saturday’s memorial service at the statue of Walter in the courtyard at Northampton’s Guildhall. And we will lay a wreath of remembrance at the Walter Tull Memorial at Sixfields, prior to the Good Friday home match against Charlton Athletic.
The Trust will also:-
- arrange for a stonemason to refresh the fading lettering on the Walter Tull memorial at Sixfields
- set up a ‘No Barriers’ campaign designed to benefit football supporters nationwide, as part of the Government’s Tull 100 initiative
- speak to the football club about a community-based project which all Cobblers clubs can sign up to for next season
“We will continue to aim to raise the profile of Walter Tull and, in his name, work to remove any barriers to football fans enjoying this beautiful game.”
